On September 15th, 80 cities across the globe will be participating in a historic event to help save the Arctic.
As the Arctic ice is melting to record lows, oil companies see this melting, not as a warning, but as an opportunity for oil exploration and drilling. Oil spills will be impossible to clean up in the Arctic’s harsh, fragile environment.
We are asking for individuals to join us on their bikes, wear white, dress up in Arctic themed costumes and help us send a positive message with a critical mass style ride through town.
10h30: Meet at Prestwich memorial (1 Somerset Road, Greenpoint) for pimping of the rides and other polar preparations.
11h00: Ride leaves the Prestwich memorial
12h30 latest: Finish up at Green Point Urban Park (Bay Road, Mouille Point, Cape Town) where we can defrost in this beautiful garden rich with biodiversity.
#IceRide #Durban will also be supporting Greenpeace’s global bike ride to challenge Big Oil Companies, by bringing awareness of the impending threats that face the Arctic and to celebrate the beauty of it. It’s free, and fun 😉
This will be a short ride of about 8km’s – ALL welcome. We will ride from Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban central to Blue Lagoon along the promenade. We will be riding with flags on our bikes to show our commitment to the fight to save the Arctic.
So come show your support for the Arctic environment, and stand up against oil companies as a united, global force!
Bring your BIKE, LONGBOARD, ROLLERSKATES or anything else with wheels and without an engine.
