Deforestation is just one of many crises facing the world. It is closely related to environmental crises such as climate change. Modern human relationships with nature are profoundly dysfunctional and, on the current trajectory, can only lead to a global ecological catastrophe.
The Green Road is a community based non-profit organisation that runs an organic/biodynamic food supply chain and follows a short-supply-chain approach in the provision of organic and bio-sustainable food products. Due to the growth of the initiative and its anticipated future continued expansion, it now needs to appoint driven and results oriented individuals in Stellenbosch.
Lucas is an all-round creative, specialising in editing, graphic design and web design. Lucas oversees the creative direction and maintenance of our site, always looking for ways to improve functionality or aesthetic appeal. He is also a musician, performing regularly at private and corporate events with his eco-conscious acoustic cover band, River Belle and has toured the country with The Pretty Blue Guns.
Ruben is a sub-editor and web administrator who has been with us since 2010. A passionate musician from Stellenbosch, he scours the internet for green news by day and plays drums and keyboards in various local bands by night.
Brad is an accountant with nearly 20 years of senior financial management experience in the SMME business sector. He has recently "seen the light" and is in the process of shifting from a profit-only focus to a more sustainable vision. He is passionate about human transformation and believes ordinary, connected people will be the ones to bring about real change in the world. He is happy to work on a freelance basis in the Cape Town area for any organisation/business in the environmental industry.
Growing up in Zimbabwe on a wildlife farm, Tara has a passion and great respect for nature. Moving to Cape Town in 2007, she has training in permaculture and sustainable design and began a career in edible landscaping and green coaching. Tara assists with writing and sales and marketing. She has 4 years recent sales and marketing experience and loves connecting people and nature through her work.
Rachel is currently a junior lecturer in the Journalism Program at the University of Pretoria, while studying to complete an honours degree in International Relations. She finds the politics of environmental issues fascinating.
Adel is proudly Capetonian, with a BA from Stellenbosch University and an Honours degree in Media from the University of Cape Town. She is passionate about wildlife and has volunteered in conservation at various places. Therefore, she loves writing about the environment. She is also fond of writing about the Mother City.
Mark Allen brings over 20 years business experience, much of it at National management level, and with particular focus on all the sales disciplines. This was gained in numerous industries, including corporate banking, foodstuffs, building materials, timber, LPG gas, electronic outdoor advertising and more recently in the GREEN movement.
Elma switched on to the precarious future of the planet in 1990, when she crafted her first green column "Nurturing Nature" in the Eikestadnuus newspaper in Stellenbosch, coupled with various social/environmental initiatives in the area. She worked in community empowerment and adaptation, followed by corporate and environmental training and coaching. In 2003 she was asked to do a second green column, this time "Living Green" in the Bolander newspaper, before launching the Green Times dedicated green newspaper in December 2008. Elma now runs the Green Times, trains eco journalists and, time permitting, writes stories - see here.
