The Eco-Logic Awards are seeking South African organisations or projects making a positive contribution towards creating an ecological society and environment. The deadline for eco champion nominations is 30 May 2021.
Award categories
The Nature Conservation Award
Awarded to an organisation for successfully protecting, rehabilitating or mitigating damage to the Earth’s biodiversity, eco-systems and/or Earth’s natural resources.
The Climate Change Award
Awarded to an organisation that has achieved a substantial reduction in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions or is providing a product, service or technology that significantly reduces GHG emissions.
The Eco-Innovation Award
For an innovative Design, Construction, Technology, Methodology, Product, or Service that serves the needs of humans whilst also being supportive of and beneficial for the Earth’s biodiversity and eco-systems.
The Recycling and Circular Economy Award
For a policy, programme, project, product, service or technology that significantly reduces waste volumes and/or facilitates a circular economy through re-use, recycling or upcycling.
The Water Conservation Award
For a product, service or technology that preserves or restores water quality or achieves significant savings of water resources.
The Eco-Fashion and Lifestyle Award
For furnishings, appliances, clothing, accessories, and materials that whilst serving the needs of human beings are also supportive of and beneficial for the Earth’s biodiversity and eco-systems.
The Eco-Health and Wellness Award
For health, wellness and beauty products that whilst serving the needs of human beings are also supportive of and beneficial for the Earth’s biodiversity and eco-systems.
The Eco-Community Award
For a community ór school that has acted collectively and effectively to protect, preserve, or restore the Earth’s biodiversity, eco-systems, or natural resources.
The Eco-Hospitality and Tourism Award
For a hospitality or tourism-related organisation that whilst serving the needs of human beings is also supportive of and beneficial for the Earth’s biodiversity, eco-systems, or natural resources.
The Eco-Angel Award
For an individual, whose caring and nurturing actions have saved, conserved, or restored the Earth’s biodiversity, eco-systems, or natural resources.
The Eco-Warrior Award
For an individual, whose defensive or combative actions have defended, protected or prevented harm to the Earth’s biodiversity, eco-systems, or natural resources.
The Eco-Leadership Award
For an individual, whose defensive or combative actions have defended, protected or prevented harm to the Earth’s biodiversity, eco-systems, or natural resources.
Judging criteria
The Eco-Logic Awards are looking for products, services, projects, individuals or organisations that embrace and reflect the following values and qualities:
- Vision: Lifting us above ‘doom and gloom’ beliefs and attitudes – inspiring and motivating us to achieve an environmentally healthy and sustainable future
- Inclusiveness: Looking (holistically and systemically) beyond our own narrow focussed interests and objectives to see how we can achieve synergies and mutual benefit for others impacted by our business activities
- Reconnection with nature by minimising harm to the Earth and creating benefits for the Earth and its eco-systems
- Three dimensional intelligence: Utilising a combination of instincts, intellect and intuition to produce innovative products or services that are intellectually and emotionally intelligent.
- Ubuntu: Building a mutually respectful, caring and co-operative society.
- Eco-ethics and consumption: Producing goods and services of high quality in a manner that has minimum negative impact on people and planet and produces no waste.
- Sustainablility: Reflecting long-term thinking and planning.
