Climate change is the most widespread & complex problem humanity has ever faced! There is no time to waste and we need to turn green talk into profound green action. This is the intention of the GREEN TIMES.
Marine biologist and environmental consultant Dr Ken Hutchings will present a talk on desalination in the South African context. He will describe how it works and discuss the potential marine environmental impacts of the process in the latest Kommetjie Environmental Awareness Group (KEAG) public talk. He will also comment on the CoCT plants proposed to address our current water crisis.
He will concentrate on operational phase impacts associated with both the intake of sea or brackish water and the discharge of brine and other co-discharges. He will briefly describe some of the studies undertaken for existing RO desalination plants along the Western Cape Coast and comment on the proposed RO plants planned to partly address the City of Cape Town water crisis.
