Lisa Brunton (pictured, right) is going the extra mile in her efforts to raise funds for the organisation Mamelani Projects, whose work focuses offering essential services in marginalized communities.
She will be running the London marathon in 17th April 2011 to raise awareness of the work that Mamelani is doing in empowering women and young people from communities’ across the Cape Flats. Lisa serves on the Mamelani’s board of Trustees, and has been associated with the charity for many years already.
Through listening to the particular needs of women, youth and children, Mamelani aims to empower and strengthen marginalized communities by facilitating programs that focus on developing people through health education, skills training and personal development.
Mamelani’s community development programs are aimed at assisting people in realising their full potential thereby establishing a healthy, fair and egalitarian society.
Their programmes work with youth who have come out of State care to become independent young adults and supports mothers, many of whom are HIV positive, in taking care of their health and the health of their families.
