Green innovation really gives us hope for the future. This week we discovered a nifty new way of printing, which saves you half your ink and toner.
An organisation with 1000 workstations use up to 240 000 litres of water during the toner lifecycle of their printers. In the same work environment, Ecofont can save you up to 10 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
We were happy to find a way to print even greener, even though we use only 100% recycled paper – and obviously rarely print at all. That’s why Ecofont was the perfect next step in slicing our office’s footprint even further. Imagine using 50% less ink and toner?
White circles slash your footprint
Ecofont is not a new type of font. Instead, it makes existing font types greener for printing by placing white circles in the text. Once it is installed on the computer, the Ecofont icon will appear on the taskbar of the programme you are using. Yet this is invisible in your printed materials.
It is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. It runs on Word and Outlook 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2013. The fonts that benefit from this greening are Arial, Calibri, Verdana, Times New Roman and Trebuchet MS. It is also available in several languages, including English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Turkish.
What are your needs?
There are several editions available, each containing a set amount of lifetime licences.
- Home Edition has one Ecofont license
- Small Business Edition supplies three Ecofont licenses
- Enterprise Edition is for corporations who want more than 30 licenses
Using Ecofont saves a considerable amount of printing cost and the resultant impact on the earth. The return on investment is typically less than 6 months, depending on how often you print. This may even be two months for heavy printing corporations.
It can be used to promote environmental awareness among employees. It also demonstrates a company’s eco-friendly considerations. To my mind this is a must for a green office.
It is very easy to download and implement. There are FAQ’s and video tutorials available on their website. Test versions and samples are available for those too tentative to order straight up. Special rates also do apply for charities and educational institutions.
It is not only planet, it is also profit. Could you think of any reason not to use Ecofont?
