The Miss Earth South Africa walked away with top honours in the Young Entrepreneur category at the Inaugural South African Premier Business Awards held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg recently.

Johannesburg-based environmentalist and law graduate, Tamerin Jardine, placed in the Top 8 at the 13th International Miss Earth at a star-studded, glittering gala showcase event in the  Philippines on Saturday night.

Volunteers from all walks of life gathered in Livingstone, Zambia during July 2012 and found common ground in a passion for the environment. Sindy Peters tells us about her experience joining the "treevolution."

Twenty years ago, the United Nations summit held in Rio de Janeiro paved the way for landmark agreements on the climate and the environment. This year's meeting, on the other hand, has been widely criticized for its lack of vision in the face of accelerating degradation of the planet.

 Earth Day took place this past Sunday with community action and green beauties taking a stand to save our open spaces as citizens of Mother Earth.

I have never been keen on beauty pageants. When I found out about the Miss Earth competition I was concerned that they were focusing on outer beauty instead of environmental passion and action. But I was wrong.
