Trevor Hardaker - wildlife enthusiast and photographer

So, I've been playing around a little with the Canon R6 and 600mm F11 RF lens mirrorless combination recently. And, because I am so involved with rarities, it made sense that I should probably test it out on them... after all, that's what many birders are going to expect from me...😉

And what better subject to start with than the mega Crested Honey Buzzard (Pernis ptilorhynchus) that has been hanging around at Spanish Farm in Somerset West...! Originally found about 2,5 weeks ago, it took a little while, in discussion with a number of experts across the world, to finally pin down the ID, but this is the first record of this species in Southern Africa and one of not all that many for sub-Saharan Africa! So a very worthy subject indeed to test the camera on!

I still need to get used to this combination and put it through some proper birder tests, but am fairly happy with the results I was able to achieve here even without knowing the camera all that well...😀
