Elma Pollard – CEO
Elma switched on to the precarious future of the planet in 1990, when she crafted her first green column “Nurturing Nature” in the Eikestadnuus newspaper in Stellenbosch coupled with various social/environmental initiatives in the area. She worked in community empowerment and adaptation, followed by corporate and environmental training and coaching.
In 2003 she was asked to do a second green column, this time “Living Green” in the Bolander newspaper, before launching this dedicated green newspaper in December 2008.
Elma now runs the Green Times, trains eco journalists and, time permitting, writes stories.
“What can I say about Elma Pollard? Is she an educator, reporter, recycler, a writer, an activist even? She is all of these, and more. What I have admired most since meeting Elma over six years ago is her integrity and conviction as an environmentalist.
Elma is a doer as well as a theorist = a professional in every sense of the word. She is not afraid to get her hands dirty. She walks the talk. Elma is very thorough in what she does, and will not compromise quality for the sake of quantity.”
