Remember our previous article about Food With A Story? If not, click here. Deni and Carlin are now 19 days into their trip and they have finally made it out of the Western Cape. The couple have been from Paternoster through the Citrusdal/Cedarberg area, into the Great Karoo (Prince Albert), then Addo in the Eastern Cape and today they arrived in Port Elizabeth. According to an update from their website, it’s all going well and in addition to some artisanal and organic producers, they are seeing some community food garden / feeding scheme projects tomorrow. They say that it is very exciting to be crossing over into the grassroots initiatives, and seeing the whole spectrum of food issues surfacing.
Over R25 000 raised
Food With A Story’s fundraising closed last week, after managing to raise a total of over R25 000 (after deductions), thanks to their IndieGogo supporters, a generous donation from Trialogue (corporate social investment and sustainability consultants), and The Table at De Meye, in Stellenbosch. Click here to see the details and public supporters.
They have also been lucky to have free accommodation most of the way so far, from some very kind people:
- The Hebron
- Tierhoek wine farm
- Karoo Khaya
- African Relish
- Brett the Vet’s vegan retreat (details coming soon)
- Rosedale Organic Farm
Keep watching www.foodwithastory.co.za for the stories about the people they meet and places that they see. Deni and Carlin have not been able to update that regularly because mostly they are busy finding the stories. Here are the links to the stories they have done so far:
