Join us in celebrating International Crochet Day and acknowledging the ReBag ReUse team for transforming plastic waste into something beautiful.
This fantastic initiative repurposes plastic, preventing landfill waste and supporting local communities. They help women put bread on the table by repurposing empty bread bags.
Over the past two years, these dedicated individuals have transformed an astonishing 62,755 empty bread bags into stunning, multifunctional products.
By repurposing plastic waste, they are not only helping reduce waste and protecting our environment, but also providing an additional income to members of the community.
ReBag ReUse has quickly become a shining example of sustainability and creativity. With fifteen talented ladies involved, five cutting the plastic and ten skilfully crocheting it, this initiative produces a range of unique and attractive products.
Their efforts have garnered significant attention, and their products have gained immense popularity. Recently, the team fulfilled one of their largest orders to Denmark, highlighting the global demand for their creations.
Each sale not only provides customers with beautifully handcrafted items but also supports the local community. A percentage of the proceeds is donated to Neighbourhood Old Age Homes (NOAH) and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
Re Bag ReUse started during the Covid-19 lockdown. Empty bread bags were repurposed and crocheted into beautiful shopping bags. It has successfully been building momentum in Hout Bay, Cape Town and is now extending its footprint to Koedoespoort, Pretoria.
They repurpose clean, soft plastic into functional bags; instead of the plastic waste landing up next to highways, in landfills or in the ocean.
This also creates opportunities for women to make money by making functional products.
