A two-day introductory course for NGOs and activists
EcoDoc Africa is proud to introduce a two day training course to demystify videography. The training course will introduce storytelling through the medium of video, will introduce the basic elements of good camera work and the basics of editing and uploading to the internet. This course is based on the work of Witness and the International Accountability Project.
The simple high definition Flip cameras will be used by the students in our practical sessions where the students will learn about camera, audio and interview techniques etc. through practice. The course will include the following:
- Introduction
- Video for change
- Storytelling
- Camera techniques
- Basic editing techniques (demonstration rather than practice)
- Uploading to the internet
The course is ideal for 2 to 12 students, and is taught by Roy MacGregor (who taught the University of Cape Town Masters Course in Film and New Media for four years and previously worked as a Director/Cameraman for the TV and Film Industry) and Liane Greeff who has been an environmental activist for years.
Courses will be run once a month on the first Thursday and Friday of each month and the cost will be R1500 per student.
EcoDoc Africa is a not-for-profit organisation based in South Africa and working on projects throughout Africa, with the main aim of bringing visual clarity to environmental issues, experiences and projects. We spend much of our time travelling though SA, but plan to be in the Western Cape for at least six months until April 2011.
Their Mission is ‘to raise awareness and promote good decision making in support of ecological sustainability and social justice through the provision of multi-media materials that inspire people and promote an understanding of the positive and negative impacts of different developmental approaches.’
EcoDoc Africa produces and disseminates visual materials such as video documentaries, articles, photographic essays, photographic and multi-media exhibitions of important environmental and social justice issues in Southern Africa and Africa.
They can also raise the profile of organisations and help with fund raising by documenting projects and stories. They provide training in simple videography using the low cost, low technical, high quality flip camera.
