Members of the Treasure the Karoo Action Group have organised a 3-day walk from Graaff Reinet to Nieu Bethesda (a distance of 65 km), as a bid to raise money to contribute to the important work that they do towards the protection of our Karoo landscape.
They chose these two towns, because Graaff Reinet was the home of TKAG member Linda’s paternal family for several generations. Also, the name ‘Nieu Bethesda’ means ‘place of flowing water’ and is associated biblically with healing.
They will be staying overnight with farmers in the area who have very kindly offered accommodation for seven or eight people. They would love to have the companionship and shared intent of others who support the Karoo, so please let Linda know if you would like to join.
Call Linda at 0824003002 or send an email to email@example.com.
- Saturday 30 June – drive from Cape Town to Graaff Reinet (overnight in Graaff Reinet)
- Sunday 1 July – walk 15 km (overnight on a farm)
- Monday 2 July – walk approximately 28 km (overnight on a farm)
- Tuesday 3 July – walk approximately 22 km (arrive and overnight in Nieu Bethesda)
- Wednesday 4 July – drive back to CT.
The second heartfelt request is for sponsorship, big or small, to raise money to support the Treasure the Karoo Action Group in their campaign to stop shale gas mining in South Africa. All money raised will go directly into the TKAG account (details below). With this walk, the hope is to raise money so that the TKAG may continue to work to protect the Karoo on behalf of us all.
All donations to TKAG entitle you to a Section 18A Certificate which you may submit with tax returns to SARS.
Please email proof of payment with the reference ‘TKAG Walk’ as well as your personal details to firstname.lastname@example.org to be thanked appropriately.
