The whole issue of nutritional supplementation remains contentious: People often say that when they grew up they were healthy without taking supplements. Why do we need to supplement a healthy (hopefully) diet with supplements today? Do we really need to spend that money? We spoke to health consultant and alternative healing therapist Ange Loock Shearer (main picture) to get the lowdown.
Ange Loock Shearer: Yes – absolutely – the food that was produced 40 – 50 years ago was grown mostly without chemical fertilisers and chemical sprays, in soils that were far richer in nutrients.
Chemical fertilizers and sprays increase soil acidity, which damages the good bacteria (soil probiotics) in the soil and interfere with growth of plants and their health. Diseases set in due to the plants low immunity and lack of true soil nutrients – resulting in more chemical sprays to rid them of that new disease – leading to a total lack of vital micronutrients in our soils to produce fruits and vegetables that contain what they are supposed to!
Food produced today is simply void of minerals, nutrients and vitamins essential for our cellular health. Sometimes even organic food – as the soil is not yet as replenished and built up as it was before. We cannot retain health without these micronutrients – and they only come from fruits and vegetables grown in organic nutrient dense soil. For most of us this is not possible, nor feasible. Today, most people simple eat far too many processed and fast foods. Even so called healthy foods are processed and often have “STUFF” added to them to make them taste better. Sadly most food is refined, has too much sugar, salt or harmful oils added – all this leads to DISEASE and high acidity … therefore leading to more serious illnesses.
Cellular feeding for health
Green Times: So even if we try to eat organically, which goes for a small portion of our readers, we still need more cellular feeding to thrive? How do the micronutrients in the Vibrant Health products differ from what’s available on chemist shelves?
Ange Loock Shearer: The Micronutrients are directly from organic plants and vegetables and are minimally processed in order to retain their nutritional integrity. The body cannot be fooled into taking something that is “manufactured” as a vitamin or nutrient – it knows the difference. Pharma vitamins (those manufactured) are chemicals and they use chemicals in their processing – this adds to our bodies strain of already being over-loaded with toxicity that our biochemistry was not designed to deal with, plus they are not BIO-AVAILABLE – i.e. cannot be readily absorbed by the body or the cells. One needs to get all nutrients into the cells – not just the blood stream.
Green Times: So we are often wasting our money purchasing the regular supplements available and also placing extra strain on our bodies? How does one know when the contents are naturally available to the body and when not?
Ange Loock Shearer: It has to come from a direct plant source – called PHYTO or Green – and the names and ingredients will list the source – which should say “blue bananas” or something like that, and not super penythaase blozimotoas 411 (just made up).
Green Times: OL, the pucker plant’s name as opposed to the chemical name. If the source is not listed, then it is not natural?

Ange Loock Shearer: If there is a chemical name attached it is not a plant source and is manufactured. The latest trick is “nature identical” – REALLY??
Green Times: How does one know according to your symptoms, what shortage is causing it, therefore which supplement to take?
Ange Loock Shearer: OK – that is different. Many companies have what they call “proprietary blends,” meaning they will not tell you what is in there and in what quantities, because it is their secret. NO, we have the right to know what we are putting into our bodies and how much of whatever is in there,- especially if you are telling me it is good for me and will keep me healthy or heal me. Usually the “nature identical” products will list ingredients – but not the source. It gets very complicated here.
Green Times: please explain to our readers what you have on offer and how we are supposed to use it. Is there a general tonic type of product to start with for general well-being, or do we need a specific diagnosis? Can you do those over a distance, as most of our readers are not near you, or via your website?
Ange Loock Shearer: That is really hard. It is something that one can look up on the internet, but this can also be misleading. One has to be careful, as minerals usually need to be taken together with an “adjacent” one – as one sometimes depletes the other if taken in high doses. It’s usually better to get the advice of a trained professional, or to take a multi- dimensional micro nutrient supplement – like the Green Vibrance – which covers all the areas of health – skeletal, nutritional, digestion, immunity, liver and detoxing, and circulation.

Green Times: Great, so Green Vibrance is the place to start. So this could be seen as a general health boost. What other products would you recommend and what for?
Ange Loock Shearer: Most importantly one has to have a healthy gut, otherwise all else you take (including great organic food) becomes useless and cannot be absorbed. This is done with a multi spectrum probiotic. GV has 25 Billion probiotics from 12 strains per serving and the human gut has about 45 different known probiotics. Bushmen have about 5 kg of probiotics in their gut, while the average Westerner has about 200g (if they are lucky). Many people struggle with taking in green foods. “It’s for rabbits and cows,” I hear all the time.
This is where they are so wrong! Our ancestors, (Palaeolithic man), ate about 3 – 4 kg of raw fruits and veggies per day – mostly green. We manage about 100 – 200 gm., if we are lucky. For the people who will not eat any or enough greens I recommend the Spectrum Vibrance – which is made from the full colour spectrum (reds, yellows, orange, blue, green and purple coloured fruits and veggies. Each different colour fruit or vegetable provides us with different vitamins and nutrients – so it is essential to eat from across the colour spectrum. This is also where all our anti-oxidants come from that clear out or neutralise the free radicals that cause so much harm to our cells and organs and are the main reason for us ageing.
There is nothing wrong with ageing – it is natural – but we should be able to just slow it down, and prevent degenerative diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart attacks, high blood pressure etc. We do not want to end up on chronic medication of 20 pills a day only to still die of some horrible disease…
Green Times: So probiotics come first. How long does one need to stay on GV then?
Ange Loock Shearer: You should really stay on it (or something like it) for life. It becomes your all and everything, and then at least one knows that you are detoxing, nutritionally supporting with minerals, vitamins and micronutrients, building your immunity, cleansing your liver, supporting your skeletal system, increasing your circulation, building a healthy gut with Probiotics and digestive enzymes etc. and also, you will feel so good on it, that you will not want to stop. If people cannot afford it, I suggest even taking 1/2 a scoop a day – this amounts to a cost of about R10 per day for so many benefits. There is more benefit in just a 1/2 scoop of Green Vibrance than anything else around.
Green Times: Can you recommend something for very busy people, like ourselves, who carry loads of stress due to high pressure jobs? Is there a product which assists in the handling of stress, or do we simply add the products recommended above? Do you have like a nerve tonic type of thing? What aids a good night’s sleep? In my case too much stress always leads to insomnia – what’s the cure from your box of tricks?
Ange Loock Shearer: For stress there are so many things out on the market. GV does contain 3 very vital and potent anti-stress products, but for many that is simply not enough. We all want to push our bodies all the time and never allow them the rest, break, breathing, exercise, and time to just dream. And then expect not to be stressed! The problem with stress is far more serious than we realise – it does not just go away.
