The second Annual Biodynamic Farmers Conference will be held at Camphill Farm, Hermanus from 2 – 6 July.
This is a civil society, farmer-led initiative aimed at a two year apprenticeship training on biodynamic farms that is accompanied by the internationally accredited Crossfields Institute. Biodynamic farming is practiced throughout the world and is particularly strong in Germany, Australia and India amongst sustainable communities.
What makes this training unique is that it not only concentrates on establishing healthy production systems and living soil fertility, but focuses on the cultural and social skills of the participants, teaching participatory management processes. It is about creating healthy social dynamics on equally healthy farms.
The conference will explore how man stands between the ethics of ecology and the accounting of economics. The question lies somewhere in finding how they enrich each other in working relationships so that there is a place in the design of things for an economically viable approach that not only supports but encourages the ecological ways and in the process offers a different picture of a sustainable livelihood.
