The time has come again for perhaps South Africa’s most renowned awards show in the recycling sector.
The nation’s most innovative recyclers are nominated each year for a number of categories.
This year, those who succeed will have the opportunity to have their priceless contributions to the recycling industry recognized.
These awards honour game-changing innovations, entrepreneurial spirit, partnerships, and projects from some of South Africa’s most innovative people, SMMEs, large corporations and municipalities alike.
But the honours are merely the tip of the iceberg. A sector that interacts with consumers and communities lies beneath them. Making these accomplishments relevant is what was needed.
PETCO’s goal goes beyond mere education initiatives. They want to motivate people and raise awareness of recycling as an economic enabler and a powerful tool for tackling one of the biggest problems facing modern society: waste.
In addition to speaking with the award winners this year, they travelled across South Africa from Mahikeng to Phalaborwa and Umlazi to Rosebank to create a documentary series that delves deeply into the recycling chain.
PETCO spoke with the individuals, groups, and businesses bringing about change in their neighbourhoods. They saw first-hand the encouraging difference they are making in the world. They witnessed numerous instances of bravery, enthusiasm, and selflessness, as well as creativity and inventiveness.
Ultimately, what they found was a diverse collection of South Africans who were unified in their optimism and faith that our country can actually turn waste into valuable resources.
They all agreed on one thing: we can build the future we all desire if we persevere, form solid alliances, and show consideration for one another.
