The PET recycling company trading as PETCO, Coca-Cola South Africa, Coca-Cola Canners and Collect-a-Can sponsored Madikwe Game Reserve with a baling machine in order to facilitate the recycling of packaging material used in the reserve.
A launch to announce the baler ready for use was held when the machine arrived at Madikwe Game Reserve during November.
‘The machine which is able to bale PET plastic and cans will condense the volume of recyclable waste for transportation thus increasing the volumes per trip.We are proud of what has been achieved and realise the importance of creating a sound partnership between the community, the government, the private sector (the lodges) and of course the sponsors and companies involved in helping set up the recycling initiative,’ says Allan Mc Master, Owner of Madikwe Lodge.
The project aims to ensure that these packaging materials, once they have completed their useful purpose, will become a resource for a new process - the PET is manufactured into fibre, new packaging and other items.
Mmasebudule Recycling started in 2007 through a group of young enthusiast from the community, who approached Madikwe Game Reserve about the recyclable collections on the reserve and in the surrounding communities. Five of these original members are still 100% committed to the project and effectively now form the foundation of the Mmasebudule Recycling Company cc.
