As South Africa becomes more environmentally aware, there has been an increase in “green” technologies and greywater recycling is no exception. However in the past, grey water has been often associated with foul odours and the inconvenience of having to move a sprinkler around the garden every time you want to water a different area.
The affordable, award winning, easy to install G-Flow greywater systems have set a new standard for grey water recycling by automatically (and safely) irrigation up to 6 different watering zones in your garden via a state of the art drip line and rotor irrigation controller. Never again will you have to move a sprinkler around your garden.
What is greywater?
Greywater is the waste water from the shower, bath, bathroom sink and washing machines. It does not include the toilet water or the kitchen waste water. On average each person wastes 100 litres of perfectly reusable ‘greywater’ down the drain every day.
With the population increasing and changes in climate, it is becoming essential to conserve our precious water supply.
Gardens and lawns need to be watered all year around. The greywater, which is being lost down the drain every day, could be reused to water the gardens and lawns. Installing a greywater system will save municipal water and keep your gardens green.
Previously in order to use greywater to water your garden, the greywater system would be attached to a sprinkler that had to be moved around the garden every time you wanted to water a different area.
International standards in many countries recommend using a drip line irrigation system with grey water and not a sprinkler system. This is to prevent any germs or bacteria that may be in the grey water from getting airborne or settling on top of the lawn and garden, which can cause unpleasant odors and attract insects.
Most standard dip line as well as irrigation systems, are not designed for use with greywater and the emitter/spray nozzles often clog rendering the grey water system ineffective. The manufacturer of the G-Flow systems has overcome this problem.
The G-Flow advantage:
The manufacturer has spent the last 8 years developing a safe, clean, low maintenance (every 3 – 6 months), robust and reliable grey water system that meets the most stringent environmental health and safety requirements.
The G-Flow system’s drip line and rotor (irrigation controller) have both been specifically designed for grey water use. The drip line is self cleaning and has a turbulent flow path. The vortex, thermally protected pump and side mounted float switch have also been specifically designed for grey water use. Ensuring years of trouble free watering.
The G-Flow systems are fail safe with an automatic diversion to the sewer during power outages. The systems are supplied with a 3 way manual valve for gravity diversion to the sewer when the system is not in use. These systems also come with an innovative self-drain and auto de-sludge mechanism.
The G-Flow systems have won various awards in South Africa including a “commendation” at the EcoLogic awards (hosted by SABC3 and the Enviropedia).
The systems have Smart WaterMark Certification and WaterWise approval.
How clean is your rainwater?
Over time your roof and gutters can collect a host of unwanted sediments and pollutants such as dirt, dust, bird droppings, leaves and insects, which are washed directly into your water tanks when it first starts to rain. These sediments and pollutants can cause the water in your tanks to become dirty and this dirty water can damage water pumps, block sprinkler heads, cause wear and tear on tap washers and algae growth in your rainwater tanks.
This can be prevented by installing a Superhead Rainwater Tank Filter.
The Superhead combines an adjustable first-flush diverter with leaf screen and insect screen all into one unit. It automatically filters and discards this polluted first rain and keeps your tanks clean and safe.
The Superhead is easy to install, low maintenance and suitable for all types of tanks. The Superhead has no mechanical parts, so guaranteed to work perfectly every time. The unit has a 10 year warranty.
