Imagine Princess Vlei - giant leopard toad puppetImagine a people’s park where we can come together to picnic, enjoy nature, be creative and listen to great music? Help us make this happen at Princess Vlei.

Come and enjoy:

  • Spectacular live bands including the internationally acclaimed John Wizards and Isongo
  • Livingstone High Jazz Band and our favourite DJ, Rozzano
  • Great food on sale, or bring your own
  • Pony rides & canoes
  • Karate & Yoga demonstrations
  • Puppets & Carnival Band
  • Art events
  • Kite-flying
  • Information stalls and much more…

We have invited our Mayoral committee to come and see what the Princess could be, and to receive the thousands of signatures we have collected that say Yes to the Princess, No to the Mall.

We call on the City to finally scrap the mall and embrace the people’s nature and heritage park. Help us to make sure that we are heard, while having an unforgettable afternoon with your family.

What is Princess Vlei?

  • A critical water body in the greater wetland system of Grassy Park…
  • A cultural heritage site, steeped in the legend of the Khoi Princess who bathed in its waters and was abducted by Portuguese sailors…
  • A precious green lung for local communities stressed by socioeconomic challenges…
  • A place where generations have enjoyed family picnics in a peaceful natural space…
  • A treasure chest of history and memory…
  • A playground for children where they can discover nature…
  • Home to endangered fynbos, leopard toads, pelicans and other wildlife…
  • A beautiful space…
  • A spiritual site where thousands are baptised every year…
  • A connecting point for Capetonians from all corners and cultures…

The Princess Vlei is not a place to build a shopping mall!

See you all at Princess Vlei tomorrow from 2 till 5. We need to protect this area of Cape Town. It should become similar to The Gardens in the City, a rich, cultural area with loads of bio-diversity, and not yet another residential area and waterside shopping centre.

The event is happening on the M5 side of the vlei and parking also at The Jolly Carp, 38 Sasmeer Road, Retreat, cape town. Note that there is an Organic market at the Jolly Carp, so you can get there before 2pm.
