Remember your bag this holiday

December 7, 2014 Leave a Comment

rethink the bagSummer holidays seem to be taken up with shopping madness at every turn. Not only are there truly practical purchases to be made and gifts to be bought to spoil your loved ones, but the advertising world will cunningly lure you into buying much more than you think you need.

If you are planning a family vacation away there are probably groceries to be bought, snacks for the journey and a mountain of ingredients to create delicious meals once at your holiday destination. Even once you have settled into enjoying lazy days of blissful relaxation, there are sure to be almost daily trips to the store for mundane items.

One super easy, and also conscious, way to make a difference to your waste stream this coming season is to reduce the number of plastic shopping bags you buy, or simply eliminate them completely!

rethink the bag (2)
Most families have a pile of reusable shopping bags which are often forgotten when heading for the stores. Be determined, this year end, and remember to take your reusable shopping bags along for the journey every time you hit the mall or corner store.

The environment will benefit, which means so do you, and you will have a measurable way of knowing your family made an important difference this season.

www.rethinkthebag.org is working towards a plastic shopping bag free South Africa. Please show your commitment by signing the online petition to ban plastic shopping bags.
